The Next Level of Learning is Here!

Almost everyone today knows the impact made by smartphones and tablets. There was a time when the only thing you could do with your phone, was make calls, and text people. But that has changed over the course of the last 10 years. At a glance, one could find some major technological breakthroughs—the birth of the PDA, smartphone, and then the tablet. These things have revolutionized how we interact with each other, and have opened a multitude of options for us to harvest. We’d like to elaborate on one of them (one close to our hearts). Interactive learning through the use of tablets and smartphones.

1) Highly engaging – In today’s time, almost every book is available in digital format, i.e., as an e-book. The biggest advantage e-books have over regular books is customizability to fit the user’s needs. You can embed multimedia in them and voila! They become a whole new bag of fun things. Add a tablet to the mix, and you can take you e-book anywhere and still have all the interactive features.

2) Affordability – The advent of tablets like Aakash and Micromax Funbook has made tablets affordable for everyone. Aakash(our very own Made in India tablet) has changed the game everywhere, when it comes to competitive pricing. It is touted as the World’s Cheapest Tablet.

3) Reach – With your trusty tablet in hand, you can study anywhere and everywhere. Sitting in a coffee shop with nothing to do? Pull out your tablet and catch up with your reading, or learn something new.

4) Time – With regular classrooms, you could only attend them in the daytime, but with handheld devices like tablets, and courses being taught online, you can access the anytime of the day. 3 in the morning and you don’t feel sleepy? Well, go ahead and learn some more from your online class.

5) Community – Social networks, forums, groups, they’ve all brought in one very significant change. The erosion of barriers to information and with it, a way for a teacher in the United States to communicate with a student in China and for a student in China to communicate with another student in Africa. The more that’s shared, the more that’s learnt.

6) Expenses – With universities like M.I.T., Stanford and Harvard offering free online courses along with initiatives like Khan Academy, Coursera and audacity, a high quality education is no longer the domain of just the well to do. All you need is a device and you’d be set.

We don’t want to sound dramatic, but we need to make sure that the next Issac Newton and Steve Jobs get all the help they need. We’re at the dawn of an era where they don’t need to be in M.I.T. to learn what an M.I.T. student learns. They don’t need to be in New York to appreciate the grandeur of the Met. Some may say it’s a poor substitute, but we prefer to look at it as an enabler. A way for someone to dream outside of what is and try to venture into what can be.
